Installation Instructions Document No. 129-436 October 5, 2009 Q-Series Remote Sensing Cables Item Number 129-436, Rev. 010 Page 1 of 2 Product Description The Q-Series Remote Sensing Cables allow the 2% accuracy or certified relative humidity sensing tips to be remotely mounted from their housings on any QFA31xx, QFA41xx, QFM31xx or QFM41xx units. The cable assemblies are available in two lengths— 10 feet and 30 feet. Contents • Cable assembly (remote tip mounting) • Four No. 8 sheet metal screws • Two plastic wall anchors • Grommet • Mounting bracket Product Numbers AQY2010 (10 foot cable) AQY2030 (30 foot cable) Caution Notations CAUTION: Equipment damage or loss of data may occur if you do not follow the procedures as specified. Required Tools • Hole saw or 5/8-inch drill bit and electric drill • Drill bit for No. 8 sheet metal screw pilot holes • Flat-blade screwdriver • Drill bit (1/4-inch) for anchors Expected Installation Time 30 minutes Prerequisites • Ensure that the appropriate field wiring is installed per the Installation Instructions included with the selected QFA31XX, 41XX or QFM31XX, 41XX humidity device. • Ensure that all wiring complies with National Electric Code (NEC) and local regulations. Installation Assembly and Use of the Mounting Bracket and Grommet The replaceable RH tip is held in place on the mounting bracket by a large rubber grommet. 1. Insert the grommet into the mounting bracket, making sure that the mounting bracket is properly located in the groove of the grommet. 2. Push the RH tip assembly through the grommet by inserting the knurled connector end through first. The RH tip should be positioned in the grommet so that the black section (with the two flats on either side and adjacent to the knurled connector) is centered in the grommet. (See Figure 1.) CAUTION: Avoid applying excessive pressure directly on the sensing portion of the RH tip when inserting into the grommet. Figure 1. Assembled RH Tip. Mount the bracket or assembled bracket and grommet using the holes in the bracket as a template. 2. Insert the RH tip into the grommet. See Assembly and Use of the Mounting Bracket and Grommet, Step 2. Duct Mounting The large angle of the mounting bracket (which has the grommet and secures the RH tip) may be used to mount the RH tip directly to a duct or other thin wall surface. Four screw holes are provided for mounting the bracket assembly in this type of application. Use either two or four screws depending on the application and personal preference. NOTE: Use holes diagonally opposite from each other for two-hole mounting. 1. Use a hole saw or drill a hole 5/8-inch minimum (optimum size) to 11/16-inch maximum in the desired location on the panel. 2. With the tip inserted into the bracket/grommet assembly as shown and described in Assembly and Use of the Mounting Bracket and Grommet, Step 2, insert the tip into the hole and mark the screw holes using the bracket as a template. Remove the bracket/tip assembly from the mounting surface and drill the No. 8 pilot holes in the locations previously marked. 3. Insert the bracket/tip assembly and secure it with either two or four sheet metal screws. The grommet will not compress significantly due to its stiffness. 4. Tighten the screws to evenly squeeze the grommet, but leave a gap between the bracket and the mounting surface around the entire surface. NOTE: Do not deform the flat surface of the bracket. Hygroscopic Solution Monitoring The 10-foot and 30-foot RH tip extension cables facilitate the use of these RH sensors as monitoring instruments for salt bath humidity chambers and other types of laboratory humidity chambers or containers. There are no specific installation instructions for this application. However, the bracket and grommet assembly may be used to facilitate mounting and securing the RH tip in this type of application. Cable Attachment The cable installation is straightforward. The connectors are complementary and a keyed match for those on the sensor body and RH tip. The installation is now complete. Next >
