Product BulletinVA-6100Issue DateJune 15, 2002©2002 Johnson Controls, Inc.1Code No. LIT-977284www.johnsoncontrols.comPRODUCT BULLETINVA-6100 SeriesElectric Valve ActuatorsVA-6100 Series Electric Valve Actuators usea synchronous motor to accurately positionJohnson Controls VG2000 Series Cast Iron FlangedGlobe Valves in Heating, Ventilating, and AirConditioning (HVAC) and industrial applications. These non-spring return electric actuators provide a1,350 lb (6,000 N) force output for on/off (floating) orproportional control. Integral auxiliary switches areavailable for indicating end stop position or forperforming switching functions. Position feedback isalso available through an isolated 2,000 ohmpotentiometer at a fixed stroke of 1-21/32 in. or anominal 0 to 10 VDC feedback signal. All modelsfeature a hand wheel for manual positioning of thevalve, independent of a power supply.Figure 1: VA-6100 SeriesElectric Valve ActuatorFeatures and Benefits❑Synchronous Motor with Pressure SwitchesProvides a constant running speed andestablishes fixed closeoff forces❑Two-Bolt Coupler ClampProvides quick and easy coupling of theactuator to the valve stem❑On/Off (Floating) or Proportional ControlAllows optimal choice of control signal❑Adjustable Starting Point, Span, and Action (ProportionalControl Model Only)Provide application flexibility and allowfor easy sequencing from only oneoutput signal❑0 to 10 VDC or 0 to 20 mA Position Feedback Signal(Proportional Control Model Only)Indicates accurate valve position inresponse to an input signal up to 10VDC or 20 mA❑Auxiliary Switches and Feedback Potentiometer Available onSelect ModelsProvide independent verification ofactuator position❑Manual Hand WheelAllows for manual positioning of thevalve, independent of a power supply2 VA-6100 Series Electric Valve Actuators Product BulletinProduct GuidelinesBefore mounting the VA-6100 Series Electric ValveActuator to a VG2000 Series Cast Iron Flanged GlobeValve, please note the following:• Mount the valve in an upright position in aconveniently accessible location. When mountedhorizontally, orient the yoke so that the yokesupports are positioned vertically, one above theother (as illustrated in Figure 2).O.K.O.K.Figure 2: Proper Yoke Orientation• Protect the actuator from dripping water that couldenter the actuator housing and damage themechanism or motor.• Do not cover the actuator with insulating material.• Allow sufficient clearance to remove the actuator(as illustrated in Figure 3).• Pipe the valve with the flow in the direction of thearrow on the valve body, so that the plug seatsagainst the flow.! CAUTION:Risk of Equipment Damage.Disconnect all power supplies before making wiringconnections or prior to performing maintenance.Check all wiring connections before applying powerto the system. Short-circuited or improperlyconnected wires will result in permanent damage tothe equipment.Table 1: Ordering DataDescriptionFeedbackActuatorModelOn/Off(Floating)ControlProportionalControl2,000 ohmPotentiometerTwoAuxiliarySwitches0 to 10 VDCor 0 to 20mA Output“N” Stem(1/2 in.),4 through6 in. Dimension “B” is 4-9/16 in. (116 mm) and dimension “A” is 1-13/16 in. (46 mm). To mount the actuator on a 4 in. valve with the valve stem in the fully down position, the actuator stem will need to be retracted 5/16 in. (8 mm). As a result, dimension “B” will then be 4-7/8 in. (124 mm) and dimension “A” will then be 1-1/2 in. (38 mm).A*T-Clutch2-1/8(54)5-23/32(145)Figure 3: VA-6100 Series Electric Valve Actuator Dimensions, in.
