It has a heating element, this means that the bulb temperature alwaysmust be higher than that of the valve body (thepower element).Series V47Temperature Actuated Water Regulating ValveFeature and Benefits Pressure balanced valve designSetpoint is independent from water inletpressure 3/8, 1/2, 3/4" are angled bodytype valves with high Kv valueSmall dimensions with high flow capacity No close fitting or sliding partsin water passagesNo hysteresis increase or stuck valve causedby contaminationV47Issue 10/09/2004Catalogue Section 7© 2004 Johnson Controls Inc.Code No. PD-V47-E2NoteAll Series V47 water regulating valves aredesigned for use only as operatingdevices. Where system closure, improperflow or loss of pressure due to valve failurecan result in personal injury and/or loss ofproperty, a separate pressure relief orsafety shutoff valve, as applicable, must beadded by the user.DescriptionA pressure-balanced design employingrubber sealing diaphragms correctlyproportioned to the valve port area, balancesvalve against both gradual and sudden waterpressure changes, and seals water away fromrange spring, guides and sliding parts so theseare not submerged in water where theywould be subject to sedimentation andcorrosion. Only five metal parts, made ofcorrosion resistant material, come in contactwith the water. These are the valve disc holder, the disc stud, the valve seat, thevalve stem, and the body.AdjustmentsThe temperature at which the valve starts toopen (= opening point) can be adjusted by theadjusting screw located at the top of the rangespring housing. Valves may be adjusted withstandard service valve wrenches orscrewdrivers. (Valves are not factory set at acertain value.)Manual flushingValves may be manually flushed by lifting thelower spring guide with screwdrivers at twosides of the pressure plate to open valve. Thisdoes not affect valve adjustment.Valve size selectionThe valve size can be selected by the use of:- the diagram (see page 3).- Kv factors and calculation formulaeRefer to the Diagram for selection of valvessizes. Carefully follow the steps as outlinedbelow.1. Determine the maximum water flow requiredand draw a horizontal line across upper halfof Flow Chart through this flow (e.g. 65 l/min,see line A)2. Determine the temperature rise above thevalve opening point.a. Valve closing point is the lowesttemperature at which it is desired to haveno flow through the valve.b. Valve opening point will be about 3 Kabove the valve closing point.c. Determine the temperature the valve is tomaintain.d. Subtract the temperature opening pointfrom the operating temperature. Thisgives the temperature rise.3. Draw a horizontal line across lower half ofFlow Chart through this value (e.g. 8 K, seeline B)4. Determine the allowable pressure dropthrough the valve. This is the pressureactually available to force liquid through thevalve.5. On lower half of curve, mark point on drawn-in horizontal temperature line at pressuredetermined in Step 4 (e.g. ∆p of 2 bar, seeline B). Interpolate between curves, or pickcurve for nearest lower pressure drop forwhich curve is drawn (this gives a reservemaximum load capacity).6. From this point draw line vertically upwarduntil it intersects drawn-in horizontal waterflow line in upper half of Flow Chart (see lineC).7. If intersection falls on a valve size curve this isthe valve size.8. If intersection falls between two curves therequired valve size is the larger of the two(for given example it becomes a 1” valve) .Valve size selection by the use of theKv factors and calculation formulaeFor water:Kv = Q p ∆ P =QKv()2Q = pKv•Q = quantity of liquid (in m3/h)∆ P = pressure drop across valve (in bar)Kv = valve flow coefficientThe Kv factor is the quantity of 20°C water thatwill pass through the valve at one bar pressuredrop and a valve opening which belongs by 14 Ktemperature rise above the valve opening point. The following Kv valuescan be used:ValvesizeKv value3/8"1.81/2"2.73/4"4.51"6.511/4"911/2"10.5V47Issue 10/09/2004© 2004 Johnson Controls Inc. E.g. for range24 to 57ºC the maximum bulb temperature notto exceed 68ºC.Note:To provide satisfactory operation, alwaysinstall valve with bellows down and springcage up.
