OPERATINGINSTRUCTIONS TheSeriesCCSCurrentSwitchesareintendedtoprovidean inputtoequipmentundernormaloperatingconditions.Where failureormalfunctionofthecurrentswitchcouldleadtopersonalinjuryorproperty damagetothecontrolledequipmentorotherproperty,additionalprecautions,must bedesignedintothecontrolsystem.Incorporateandmaintainotherdevicessuch assupervisoryoralarmsystemsorsafetyorlimitcontrolsintendedtowarnof,or protectagainst,failureormalfunctionoftheCCS. INSTALLATION MOUNTING 1.Mounttheswitchinasuitablelocationusingthetwomountingholesinthebase oftheunit. 2.Ifusingties,makesuretiesaresecurelyfastenedandthattheunitisstable. Ifusingtheprovidedscrews,tightlyscrewinonescrewatatimeintoeachhole. WIRING 1.Ensurethatthepowersupplytothecircuitisoff. 2.Forsolidcoredevices:disconnectthecircuitline,slidethepowerconductor cablethroughthesensingholeofthecurrentswitch,andreconnectthecircuit line. Forsplitcoredevices: openthecoreusingthereleasetab.Snapthecore closedaroundthepowerconductorcable.Makesurethatthecorereleasetab islockedinitsoriginalposition. 3.Connecttheswitchcircuittothetwoscrewterminalsusingringorforktype terminals. 4.Turncircuitbackon. WARNINGINCREASINGMEASUREDCURRENT Ifmeasuredcurrentistoolowtobedetected: Wraptheconductor(wire)throughthesensingholeandaroundtheCCSbodyto producemultipleturnstoincreasethemeasuredcurrent.Usethebelowequationto determinehowmanywrapsarenecessary: Measuredcurrent=actualcurrentxthenumberofturns. Failuretoderatethecurrentcapacitycouldresultindamagetothe SeriesCCSwhenusingmultipleturnstoincreasethemeasured current.Usethefollowingformulatodeterminethenewmaximumcurrent: Newmaximumcurrent=CCScurrentrating/numberofturns. Forexample,with4turnsandamaximumcurrentratingof200A:Newmaximum current=200A/4=50A. SETPOINTCALIBRATION(Foradjustablemodelsonly) Theoutputswitchofalldevicesisopen.Whenthemonitoredcurrentexceedsthetrip valueassetbythesetpointcalibration,theswitchwillclose.TheredLEDlightwill indicatethatthischangehasoccurred. SeriesCCScurrentswitchesarefactorysetattheminimumswitchpoint(adjustment fullyclockwise). Toincreasethesetpoint: Usethepotentiometertoadjusttherange: •Confirmthatthemonitoredloadison. •Turntheadjustmentcounter-clockwise,untiltheoutputturnsoffasindicatedbythe redLED. •Thenturntheadjustmentclockwise,untiltheredLEDcomesbackonindicatingthat theoutputisnowon. Theadjustmentshouldbeturnedslightlyclockwisepastacertain pointtoensurenormallinecurrentvariationsdonotcausefalse conditions. TROUBLESHOOTING MAINTENANCE UponfinalinstallationoftheSeriesCCSCurrentSwitches,noroutinemaintenanceis required.Aperiodiccheckofsystemcalibrationisrecommended.TheSeriesCCSis notfieldserviceableandshouldbereturnedifrepairisneeded(fieldrepairshouldnot beattemptedandmayvoidwarranty).Besuretoincludeabriefdescriptionofthe problemplusanyrelevantapplicationnotes.Contactcustomerservicetoreceivea returnofgoodsauthorizationnumberbeforeshipping. Symptom SeriesCCSoutputdoesnotfunction. Setpointpotentiometerkeepsturning. Motor(orotherequipmentusingcurrent) isturnedonandswitchdoesnotclose. Solution •Verifythatthemaximumamperagerangehasnotbeenexceeded. VoltagesorcurrentsabovetheratedlevelsmaydamagetheSeries CCS. •Turnthepotentiometercounterclockwise,toreturntheunittoits originalsetting.Startthecalibrationprocedureagain. •Insufficientcurrenttotheloadleadstoreachthesetpoint threshold.Toturnswitchon,followtheinstructionsifcurrentistoo lowtobedetected.
